Sharing Our Data
to Build a More Equitable Community

We believe that transparency and accountability are essential to community trust. That’s why we’ve begun collecting and sharing data about the neighbors we serve—so our donors, sponsors, and supporters can better understand who is impacted by our work and where the needs are growing.

Food Pantry - Family Units Served

ICAN’s food pantry tracks the number of family units served rather than individual people. This approach helps us better understand the number of households relying on our support, regardless of size. By focusing on family units, we can more accurately plan for food distribution, track trends in community need, and ensure each household receives the appropriate level of assistance.

Employment Data

Rising Needs in a Shifting Economy

Although Indiana’s statewide unemployment rate has declined to 3.6% as of June 2025, Indianapolis is seeing a different trend. The city’s unemployment rate rose from 3.5% in May to 3.9% in June (in.gov, ycharts.com). This rise reflects growing instability in certain sectors, especially for workers in retail, service, and gig jobs. Even as job numbers improve on paper, many families are still struggling—leading more neighbors to turn to ICAN for essential support.

Supporting a
Diverse Community.

ICAN serves a diverse Eastside community, where nearly 60% of residents identify as Black, Hispanic/Latino, multiracial, or another minority group. Among ICAN’s neighbors served, 29.2% identify as Black or African American, 10.4% as multiracial, 5.2% as Hispanic/Latino, and smaller percentages identify as Asian, Native American, or other racial and ethnic groups. We recognize that systemic barriers create unequal access to housing, food, healthcare, and other basic needs. Guided by our mission, ICAN works to advance equity, inclusion, and dignity, ensuring that every neighbor—especially those historically marginalized—has the support and resources needed to thrive.
