Everything You Need to Get Started

The ICAN Volunteer Guide is here to help you feel informed, prepared, and confident as you step into your role as a community volunteer. Whether you're brand new to ICAN or a longtime supporter looking to deepen your involvement, this guide outlines everything you need to know—including our mission, what to expect at volunteer shifts, how to sign up for opportunities, and tips for creating a positive experience for both you and the neighbors we serve.

It’s more than a handbook—it’s a reflection of how we work together to build a more connected, compassionate community. Inside, you’ll find:

  • ICAN’s mission, values, and approach to service

  • Volunteer roles and expectations

  • Contact information and scheduling

  • ICAN Inclusive culture practices and Code of Ethics

We encourage all volunteers—new and returning—to review the guide before signing up. It’s designed to support you, answer common questions, and make your time with ICAN as impactful and meaningful as possible.
